Day of the African Child - 2016

Today the world comes together to mark the Day of the African child. This day commemorates those who were killed in the 1976 student uprising in South Africa. It is also a day for us to raise awareness around the challenges facing children in Africa, one of which is our mission to combat against child marriages.

The theme for this year is 'The need for children to access safe support, in a child friendly justice system'; reaffirming our commitment towards fighting for a justice system that will condemn and work to eradicate child marriages.

Here are some of the things you can do today to get involved:

There is a webinar on 'Access to a Child Friendly Justice System in Africa' hosted by Africa Committee of Experts on the Rights and Welfare of the Child. This will be livestreamed at 17:00-20:00 (GMT) AND 13:00-16:00 (EAT) - More details and how to join the webinar can be found here.

The webinar Programme - which you can access here.

More information on speakers, sessions, objectives and scope of the webinar - found here.
